The Sunday Round-Up: 5th September - 11th September

Sony have made all the gaming headlines this week as well as some other little things in this weeks post.

This week sees Sony finally lifting the lid on their project known as Neo. The announcement was made at a press event in New York where Sony showed both the PlayStation 4 Slim and the PlayStation 4 Pro. The Slim is a slimmer model of the original PS4 but the Pro is an upgraded PS4 with more power allowing for 4K gaming and streaming. The Slim will be available September 15th at $299 while the Pro will be released November 10th at $399.

I am not a fan of the designs. They sorta look like sandwich cookies. Also, the Pro being unable to play 4k Blu-ray movies is a serious handicap.

Sony's taking a page out of nintendo's book with this one. Soon we'll have a 3DPS4 for 3D tv's, and then after that they'll put out a 2D version. When will the crap end?

Getting a better look at the PS4's slim model, it does look rather...cheap? Well, not as nice and sharp looking as the original model. As for the Pro, I know that the general public is moving more towards streaming for movies and whatnot, but not having a 4k blu-ray player doesn't make much sense. Personally, I'm not all that interested in either of these consoles at the moment. Maybe I'll get one when the PS4 is basically dead like I did with the PS3 this year.

Compared to the slim models of the previous PS systems, this variation seems the least appealing; too silly looking.
As for the PS4 Pro, it's not much better aesthetically.
Technically wise, I'm bothered how the neither can't play 4k Blu-Rays which seems weird considering how the Xbox One S can.
Then there's the "4k" games...
From what I can gather, games aren't going to play at a native 3840x2160 resolution, so I can only assume they're just going to upscale from 1080p. If that's the case, I don't see much use in upgrading to a Pro. I would much rather either play at native 4k or just play at 1080p 60fps.

announced back in 2013, Cyberpunk 2077 is still in development and is now being worked on by more people than The Witcher 3 ever had. No more info has been released by CD Projekt such as release dates or other gameplay news.

KataWolf

Well, this took long enough.

Gordon Grievous

This had almost reached Half Life 3 levels of wishing it were made. Good to see that there's seemingly some progress.

Shigeru Miyamoto has revealed Super Mario Run, an iOS game starring Nintendo's main mascot. The game is set to be launched this December and will be coming to other mobile platforms at a later date.

Gordon Grievous

It's funny that if Sega took this same exact concept and made it about Sonic it'd be one of the best Sonic games in the past 10 years.

MegaSilverX1

I'm not interested in the game but I can see this being a good way to interest the casual crowd into getting a Nintendo console.

Mecha Koopa

This looks like a neat little game that I'd enjoy for a bit, but I'm really hoping for an Android release sometime soon.

KataWolf

So, its a priced game and apparently it has microtransactions. If this was any other company there would immediately be outrage

Bethesda have cancelled plans to bring mod support for their games on PS4 this week. According to them the decision to drop mods was down to Sony and that Bethesda were all for adding mods to Fallout 4 and Skyrim but couldn't agree to the terms with Sony.

Mecha Koopa

From what I heard, Bethesda wanted a certain amount of space per mod, Sony wanted a fixed combined amount. About 900MB compared to Microsoft's 2GB.
Even though I don't play the console versions, it sucks how mods can't come to PS4 when Xbox One's had it for a while now.

A group of Obsidian developers have been using the Unreal 4 engine to create the Mos Eisley Spaceport from Star Wars.

Gordon Grievous

For obvious reasons this makes me very happy.

Mecha Koopa

Things like this make me wish that Obsidian could make a Star Wars RPG. (Or even better another Fallout game similar to New Vegas, but that's beside the point.)
